Industrial tourism was born in the 60´s in United States and Great Britain. In the last few years, other countries including Spain have discovered this tourist segment. This increasing interest has opened the door to many cities and regions with an industrial past, who now see tourism as a way to give a new use and value to their industrial heritage. Nevertheless, there is a big confusion, as the term industrial tourism in Spanish is used to designate two different activities: the visit to industrial heritage sites and the visit to companies and industries still in active. It is necessary to clarify and redefine this term. This article analyzes the most important definition of industrial tourism in Spanish, French and English to end with a proposal of our own definition of the term.
