This research project arises in response of the actual challenges of the environment. This new context makes organizations to have the necessity to be more competitive. In this competitive work environment, the competency management is a key strategy for organizations. Because of that, it is important that an organization have competitive personnel in all level of the company. The employees with the appropriate competencies in the professional level, in order to face the new environment, are provided by different universities. Among the important figures in universities, we chose the professor as the key piece because he or she contributes in a direct and indirect way to the undergraduate student's competency training. This research work, analyses different aspects to identify the most valued teaching competencies that a university professor has. First, the professor's competencies are analyzed in a general perspective and second, the professor's competencies are analyzed in the specific education models: regular context (professor-student in a classroom) and the virtual context. 552 undergraduate students participated in this study. They were studying 5 different bachelor programs in the business school of ITESM (Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey). These students were studying the first, second, fourth, and ninth semesters of their bachelor programs either in the regular context or the virtual context. The findings of this study confirm the previous analyses in the field literature. These findings show that the most valued competencies that undergraduate students perceived in their professors are on one hand the competency of ethics and personal attention behaviors that professors demonstrate in class and in the other hand, the competency of effective verbal communication. This research work, pretends to contribute, at least a little to the existent research in this field, and try to gain a better understanding of the teaching competencies of university professors.
