Resumen
El trabajo aborda la necesidad de delimitar algún elemento o valor que permita identificar a las cooperativas, y al mismo tiempo, diferenciarlas de otras formas de empresa que dan lugar a confusión. Ya sea desde sociedades de capitales que adoptan códigos de conducta cercanos a los principios cooperativos, ya sea desde las empresas sociales donde se mezclan distintas entidades por perseguir algunos fines similares, todas ellas se aproximan a los postulados de las cooperativas y se mezclan con las mismas. Por un lado, la especificidad de la cooperativa, tal vez, se pueda explicar por su carácter mutual, aunque con matices. La democracia, en cambio, se configura como el valor identitario de las cooperativas. Así, la democracia brilla como un valor predicable no ya sólo en la gestión o participación en la empresa cooperativa, sino en su extensión a todos los aspectos de la vida del socio dentro de la sociedad y comunidad a la que pertenece.
The paper addresses the need to define an element or value that identifies co-operatives, and at the same time make the difference from other types of enterprise that lead to confusion. Neither capital companies that statue codes of conduct near the co-operative principles, nor social enterprises which pursue purposes as co-operatives do, are cooperatives, but both of them get mixed with co-operatives. On the one hand, the mutual property of co-operatives, perhaps, can explain its different nature, but with nuances. Democracy, however, is configured as the identity value of co-operatives. Thus, democracy shines like a predicable value not only in managing or controlling the co-operative enterprise, but democracy also spreads to all aspects of members’ life in society and the community to which members belong.
