Bigarren Mundu Gerraz geroztik bereziki Euzko Alderdi Jeltzaleak (EAJ) politika europazalea garatu zuen, eta Francisco Javier Landaburu jauna dugu ekimen horren bultzatzaile nagusietako bat. Europa batua eta indartsua aldarrikatu zuen Landaburuk, Europa federala, non Euskadik nazio gisa parte hartzeko aukera izango zuen, “Agirre doktrina” esaten zaion planteamenduarekin bat eginez. Landaburu euskaldun nazionalisten ordezkari nagusia izan zen, erakunde federalistetan zein kristau-demokratetan. Kristau Demokraziaren Euskal Taldeko presidentea izanik, Europako foroetan parte hartu zuen sarritan. Euskal Mugimendu Federalistaren fundatzailea ere izan zen, baita Europako Mugimenduko Espainiar Kontseilu Federaleko kidea eta Nouvelles Equipes Internationales (NEI) taldeetako Batzorde Betearazleko kidea ere. Ezbairik gabe, EAJren egungo diskurtso europazaleak Landabururen planteamendu horietan du sorburua.
Francisco Javier Landaburu was one of the main exponents of pro-European politics that the Partido Nacionalista Vasco (PNV) developed, particularly after the Second World War. Their defence of a united and strong Europe, a federal Europe where the Basque Country would participate as a nation was included in the approach known as the “Aguirre Doctrine”. Landaburu was the “visible face” of the Basque nationalists in federalist and Christian Democrat organisations. As President of the Basque Team for Christian Democracy, he became a regular face at European forums. He was also the founder of the Movimiento Federalista Vasco (MFV), member of the Spanish Federal Council for the European Movement and member of the Executive Committee for the Nouvelles Equipes Internationales (NEI). The PNV’s current pro-Europe discourse is the clear heir to his approaches.
