Construcción social, vida buena y virtud: algunas claves para la formación ética del trabajador social

Resumen
Por su propia finalidad de acompañamiento y ayuda a aquellas personas o colectivos en necesidad, el trabajo social es una labor ética. Por ello, la formación ética de los futuros trabajadores sociales es primordial. Pero para que la ética profesional pueda ser eficaz conveniente situarla en tres coordenadas: construcción social, vida buena y virtud. Ello supone atender a un doble contexto: primero, el contexto sociocultural, económico y político en el que vivimos, marcado por el predominio de la razón neoliberal que responde a una lógica de individualismo atroz que expulsa a los márgenes del sistema a cada vez más seres. El segundo contexto viene determinado por la necesidad de integrar la ética profesional en el proyecto de vida buena, de autorrealización personal, al que aspira el futuro trabajador social como ser humano. El trabajo social coloca ese proyecto personal en dimensiones sociales, de construcción social y de ejercicio de ciudadanía muy diferentes a las propuestas neoliberales en boga. Atender a ambos contextos es clave para lograr desarrollar una ética eficaz, capaz de proponer modelos de construcción social mucho más inclusivos, y para convertir al trabajador social en agente de transformación social. Abordar el diseño de una ética profesional de las virtudes nos parece la manera más adecuada de responder a esos retos. Concluimos con una invitación a abordar ese proyecto como medio de ir adquiriendo esa formación ética, que lejos de reducirse al periodo de formación universitaria habrá de prolongarse toda la vida.
Because of its own purpose of accompanying and helping people and collectives in need,social work is an ethical task. Consequently, the ethical training of future social workers is of paramount importance. But in order to be effective, professional ethics needs to be under- stood with in three coordinates: social construction, good life and virtue. That mean staking in to account two contexts: first, the sociocultural, economic and political context we live in, marked by the predominance of a neoliberal reason based on a cruel individualistic logic that pushes more and more people to the margins of society. These condcontext refers to the need of integrating professional ethics in the project of good life, of personal fulfillment, to which any social worker aspires as a human being. Social work provides a social dimension to that personal project, linking it to the construction of society and the exercise of citizenship, in sharp contrast with current neoliberal proposals. It is crucial to pay attention to both contexts, in order to develop an efficient ethics that is able to provide models for building an inclusive society and to turn social workers in to agents of social transformations. It’s our view that designing a professional ethics of virtue is the best way to face those challenges. As a conclusion,we formulate an invitation to carry out that project as a means to acquire that ethical training, which needs to be a life long task far be yond the university training period.
