Resumen
La variabilitat en la presa de decisions en protecció infantil està rebent cada vegada més atenció en el treball social. Aquest article presenta les troballes d’un estudi quantitatiu que s’ha dut a terme amb professionals de protecció infantil en la comunitat autònoma del País Basc. L’objectiu és analitzar la variabilitat en la presa de decisions en protecció infantil en funció de les característiques personals dels professionals que intervenen en aquests casos. L’estudi ha explorat a través de la metodologia de vinyetes si la decisió de separar la persona menor d’edat de la seva família –o de preservar la relació– està relacionada amb variables sociodemogràfiques i vivencials i amb la titulació i experiència professional. Partint de la hipòtesi de l’existència de variabilitat entre professionals a l’hora de decidir si implementar una mesura de preservació familiar o una de separació, aquest estudi ha trobat diferències significatives en la decisió en funció de l’experiència professional, de l’edat i del fet de ser pare o mare. En altres variables, els resultats suggereixen la importància d’altres factors com el context organitzatiu des d’on s’intervé.
The variability in decision making in child protection is receiving increasing attention in social work. This article presents the findings of a quantitative study that has been carried out with child protection professionals in the Basque Country. The objective is to analyze the variability in decision making in child protection based on the personal characteristics of the professionals involved in such cases. The study has explored through the vignettes methodology if the decision to remove or preserve the minor in his family is related to sociodemographic and experiential variables, and also to the formation and professional experience. Based on the hypothesis of the existence of variability among professionals when deciding whether to implement a measure of family preservation or separation, this study has found significant differences in the decision based on professional experience, the age of professionals and the fact of being a father or mother. In other variables, the results suggest the importance of other factors such as the organizational context in which professionals work.
