| dc.description.abstract | The current research investigates the impact of the recent economic crisis and associated austerity agenda on working women in Portugal and Spain. It draws firstly on a comparative analysis of official surveys’ data, recent innovations to the labour market and care policy; secondly, on qualitative research exploring changes in women's employment, family arrangements and values. The findings will reveal how in both countries women maintain their labour market attachment and how the abrupt change due the pandemics has influenced gender inequality issues from the perspective of critical gender economics. The framework for the analysis in this study is based on women and crisis and gender and crisis approach to how gender relations and women's employment change over time. In these perspectives, change to gender relations needs to be understood in the historical and cultural context of women's employment integration. The extent to which women are affected by a recession and austerity-driven reforms will be analysed in-depth as well as how recent labor policies affect and interact with societal institutions, norms and gendered values. The aim is to contribute to the understanding of whether gender inequality indicators can fluctuate due to economic, political and social disruptions and to which extent. | eng |
