Resumen
Las dificultades para articular un discurso rotundo y compartido sobre la definición de la identidad nacional y el modelo de vertebración territorial de la nueva España democrática caracterizaron al proceso de Transición. El País Vasco no fue ajeno a este debate. La existencia de un sistema de partidos políticos peculiar, que cuenta con varias líneas de fractura, como la clásica entre izquierda y derecha, a la que se añade la línea de tensión entre partidos nacionalistas/abertzales y estatalistas/españolistas, no hace sino multiplicar las opciones de definición identitaria. En este artículo nos centraremos en la idea que de España articularon UCD (Unión de Centro Democrático) y AP (Alianza Popular) en el País Vasco durante el proceso constituyente.
The Transition to Democracy in Spain was characterized by difficulties in articulating a decisive and shared discourse on the definition of national identity and the model of territorial organization in the newly democratic state. The Basque Country did not fall outside of this debate. It had a unique system of political parties that were divided along various lines, including not only the classic Left-Right spectrum but also tensions between Basque nationalist parties and the Right. These divisions simply created more options when it came to defining identity. This article focuses on the idea of Spain articulated by the Unión de Centro Democrático (Union of the Democratic Centre) and Alianza Popular (Popular Alliance) in the Basque Country during the shaping of Spain’s new constitutional arrangements.
