dc.description.abstractDurante el siglo XVIII, los conventos bilbaínos de la Santa Cruz y La Concepción de monjas franciscanas fueron dueños de tres escribanías en las villas de Bilbao y de Portugalete. Al tenerlas arrendadas, esta posesión supuso una ganancia económica, pero asimismo, fue una fuente de problemas judiciales, como la documentación de diversos archivos nos desvela. De esta manera, a través de este artículo, pretendemos revelar los motivos por los cuales las escribanías acabaron en manos de los conventos y las vicisitudes vividas. Si bien hay una bibliografía básica en torno a las escribanías y los conventos, la base en este artículo son los archivos, principalmente el Archivo Histórico Provincial de Bizkaia, donde hemos encontrado documentos que han hecho posible este artículo. Con ello pretendemos no sólo sacar a la luz información inédita sino también reflejar cómo dos ámbitos de poder, como fueron las escribanías y los conventos, estuvieron estrechamente unidos en el Antiguo Régimen.es
dc.description.abstractDuring the 18th century, the Franciscan female convents of Santa Cruz and La Concepción, both from Bilbao, owned three notaries, two of them located in Bilbao and the other one in Portugalete. As the notaries were rented, they represented a financial help for the conventual economies, but at the same time they were also a source of judicial problems for the nuns. This paper is therefore focused on the circumstances lived by both the notaries and the convents. So, it is told how the convents became the owners and what occurred between the two institutions. A basic bibliography about notaries and convents is used, but the archives, especially the Archivo Histórico Provincial de Bizkaia, that is the public notaries’ archive, is the main source of this unprecedented paper. Thus, thanks to this paper not only unknown information is published but also it is possible to see that two powerful institutions were strictly linked during the Early Modern Ages.en
