Ítem An adaptation of the psychological capital questionnaire for the sports environment(Universidad de las Islas Baleares = Universitat de les Illes Balears, Servicio de Publicaciones = Servei de Publicacions i Intercanvi Científic, 2022) Borrajo, Erika ; Azanza, Garazi ; Urquijo Cela, ItziarIdentifying the psychological strengths of athletes is necessary to improve their performance. With the objective of comprehensively assessing those, the present study aimed to adapt and validate the Spanish version of the PCQ (Azanza et al., 2014) in a sample of athletes from different disciplines. Participants were 540 athletes recruited to participate in the study with the assistance of university students. The factor structure of the SPCQ was tested with a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and a correlational analysis was carried out to analyze the relationship between Sport PsyCap and personality. Statistical analyses showed that the questionnaire obtained adequate psychometric properties regarding reliability, construct validity and convergent validity. These confirmed the existence of four first-order factors (self-efficacy, optimism, hope, and resilience) and a second-order factor (PsyCap), following the structure of both the original questionnaire (Luthans et al., 2007), and the version adapted to the Spanish sample (Azanza et al., 2014). The SPCQ is presented as a suitable way to measure psychological capital both in the field of research and professional practice, offering a reliable tool for the identification and subsequent intervention in different psychological aspects that can improve performance.Ítem Assessing peer teamwork competence: adapting and validating the comprehensive assessment of team member effectiveness–short in university students(Frontiers Media SA, 2024) Garalde Gorostola, Alain; Solabarrieta, Josu; Urquijo Cela, Itziar; Ortiz de Anda Martín, IratiIntroduction: The Bologna Plan has promoted competency-based training in European higher education, which requires developing accurate, appropriate assessment tools for its measurement and evaluation. Method: This study adapted and validated the Comprehensive Assessment of Team Member Effectiveness questionnaire on teamwork competence in a university population in the Basque Country, Spain. The questionnaire was first back-translated and adapted by two experts in educational research and then completed by 642 students pursuing baccalaureate degrees in primary education and physical activity and sport sciences at the University of Deusto [215 women, 426 men; ages: 17–25 years (M = 21.5; SD = 1.3)]. Results and discussion: A confirmatory factor analysis yielded adequate goodness-of-fit indices, confirming the validity of the instrument’s measurement model and indicating that it may be an appropriate tool for assessing teamwork competence among peers for university students in the Basque Country.Ítem Connecting emotion regulation to career outcomes: do proactivity and job search self-efficacy mediate this link?(Dove Medical Press Ltd., 2019-12-13) Urquijo Cela, Itziar ; Extremera Pacheco, Natalio; Solabarrieta, JosuIntroduction: Over the last decade, emotion regulation has drawn much attention in the organisational literature, specifically in career outcomes. Although the relationship between emotion regulation and career outcomes has been well established, potential mechanisms that might account for this relationship are still unclear. Method: This study attempts to narrow this gap by examining the mediating effect of proactivity and job search self-efficacy on the relationship between emotion regulation and career outcomes in a sample consisting of 399 graduates (277 women, 122 men) with ages ranging from 22 to 60 years (M=30.5, SD=8.26). Results: Structural equation modelling showed partial mediation effects of job search self-efficacy between emotion regulation and career outcomes. However, no mediating effect was found for proactivity. Discussion: These results suggest that the promotion of emotion regulation and self-efficacy may be fundamental in the development of programmes for career outcomes. Finally, implications and limitations of the present findings are discussed.Ítem The contribution of emotional intelligence to career success: beyond personality traits(MDPI, 2019-11-29) Urquijo Cela, Itziar ; Extremera Pacheco, Natalio; Azanza, GaraziThis study sought to investigate the role of emotional intelligence in both extrinsic and intrinsic career success in early and later career stages. Specifically, we examined the predictive and incremental validity of emotional intelligence in career success after controlling for personality factors in a sample of 271 graduates. When analyzing extrinsic career success, regression analyses revealed that demographic variables, such as gender, age, area of study and career stage, and the variable of proactive personality, were related to salary. When the dependent variable was job satisfaction, emotional intelligence acted as a strong predictor, even when personality traits and proactive personality were controlled. These findings provide preliminary evidence that emotional intelligence is a relevant addition to guide the achievement of career success. Finally, limitations of the results and implications of these findings are discussed.Ítem Eating disorder symptoms and weight pressure in female rowers: associations between self-concept, psychological well-being and body composition(BioMed Central Ltd, 2024-06-14) Larrinaga García, Beñat; Borrajo, Erika; Muñoz Pérez, Iker; Urquijo Cela, Itziar; García Rodríguez, Ana; Arbillaga Etxarri, AneBackground: Female rowers may be at risk of eating disorders and high weight pressure. Aim: The purpose of the study was to investigate the prevalence of disordered eating symptoms and weight-related pressure and the associations with self-concept, psychological well-being, socio-demographic data, experience, performance level and body composition in female fixed-bench rowers. Methods: Female rowers (n = 208; age ranged mean ± SD 23.6 ± 6.5 years) completed the SCOFF scale, Weight-Pressures in Sport-Females (WPS-F), Physical Self-Concept Questionnaire and the Ryff scales of psychological well-being and provided information on their experience and level of competition. In a subgroup of 115 athletes, body composition was assessed using bioimpedance. Results: It was found that 42.3% of the athletes scored ≥ 2 on SCOFF and mean ± SD value of WPS-F score was 3.65 ± 0.82. Stepwise regression analysis revealed that self-concept of strength and pressure from teammates and the uniform were associated with higher ED symptoms, whereas better psychological well-being in terms of autonomy, self-concept of attractiveness, and age were protective factors for ED symptoms. BMI, athletes’ physical condition, strength, and experience were associated with more weight-related pressure and better self-concept of attractiveness and physical well-being of autonomy were significantly associated with less pressure. In body composition analysis, higher extra cellular water, self-acceptance, and physical condition were associated with more weight-related pressure in female rowers, being attractiveness and the environmental mastery protective elements. Conclusions: The prevalence of ED symptomatology and weight-related pressure are high in female fixed bench rowing. The present study aimed to analyze the relationship between perceived stress, emotional intelligence and negative self-talk in runners. It also aimed to determine whether emotional intelligence factors could play a protective role in this relationship. The sample consisted of 1071 runners from a race held in the Basque Country (Spain). The age of the participants was between 18 and 75 years (Mean = 41.59; SD = 9.95; 71.4% men). Participants completed an online survey days after the race. The results showed that perceived stress would be related to greater use of negative self-talk. In addition, evaluation of others' emotions and emotional regulation would also explain the occurrence of negative self-talk. Likewise, the interaction between perceived stress and appraisal of one's own emotions would explain the occurrence of negative self-talk, this relationship being stronger among those with lower scores on appraisal of one's own emotions. Results and practical implications of the findings are discussedÍtem Predictores y motivos de abandono en carreras por montaña de larga distancia(Generalidad de Cataluña = Generalitat de Catalunya, Instituto Nacional d'Educació Fisica de Catalunya, 2025-01-01) Puigarnau, Sílvia; Guinovart, Neus; Urquijo Cela, Itziar; Alcaraz García, SaülExiste un creciente interés en la participación en carreras por montaña de larga distancia. Nuestros resultados ponen de manifiesto la importancia de la preservación de la salud como un aspecto fundamental del abandono en las carreras por montaña de larga distancia.Ítem Self-assessment of teamwork in higher education: adaptation and aalidation of the CATME-S to Spanish version(Hipatia Editorial, 2025-02-24) Garalde Gorostola, Alain; Urquijo Cela, Itziar; Rubio Florido, Isabel; Solabarrieta, JosuTeamwork is one of the transversal skills to be acquired for an integral performance in life. Thus, higher education must address it effectively, but one of the great challenges of competence-based learning in higher education is the measurement of their acquisition. For this reason, to ensure an adequate competence acquisition, reliable instruments adapted to the particular context are needed. In this sense, one of the most used instruments to measure said competence is not translated or validated in Spanish. This study aimed to adapt and validate the Comprehensive Assessment of Team Member Effectiveness–Short (CATME-S) questionnaire on teamwork competence in a self-assessment version in a university population in the Basque Country. This research began with the questionnaire’s back-translation and adaptation by two experts in educational research. The study involved 949 students pursuing bachelor’s degrees in physical activity and sports sciences and primary education at a university in the Basque Country, Spain (381 women and 568 men aged 17–24 years: M = 20.5; SD = 1.5). A confirmatory factor analysis returned adequate goodness-of-fit indices, confirming the validity of the CATME-S scale measurement model. Therefore, it may be concluded that it represents a suitable tool for self-assessing teamwork competence in university students in the Basque Country.
