Introduction:Communication is essential for nursing professionals, impacting healthcare quality and evolving nursing roles. It must be integrated into training programs. In Spain, study plans must be registered in the Registry of Universities, Centers, and Degrees (RUCT), including subject-specific competencies. This study examines the presence of communication competencies in nursing education and the perceptions of students and faculty regarding their importance and acquisition. Methodology:A curriculum analysis of 61universities offering a Nursing Degree was conducted, reviewing 38 identified communication-related courses. Additionally, questionnaires were administered to 282 students and 230 faculty members to assess their perceptions of communication competencies. Results:Recurrent competencies from Order CIN/2134/2008 and ANECA were identified. All were positively evaluated, with CE8 and CE16 receiving the highest ratings, whileCE6 the lowest. Overall, 65% of students were satisfied with their communication training, though 10% expressed dissatisfaction. Discussion:There are no standardized criteria for defining and classifying communication competencies. Information in the RUCT is heterogeneous and lacks a clear structure. Conclusions:Despite its recognized importance, the lack of clear criteria hinders the integration of communication competencies into nursing curricula. A more defined and standardized framework is needed to ensure consistent and effective training aligned with healthcare demands.
