En el primer caso, porque el esquilmo de los documentos escritos en castellano va sacando a la luz no sólo testimonios de nuevos vasquismos, sino también de variantes no atestiguadas de voces vascas ya conocidas. En la segunda vertiente, la románica, por varios aspectos fundamentales como la modificación de primeras dataciones o la identificación de elementos léxicos habitualmente atribuidos al ámbito oriental, y sobre todo al navarro, cuya distribución en las variedades hispánicas parece conveniente reubicar en la historia del léxico del continuum dialectal norteño.Documents from the Basque Country further our knowledge of the history of both Basque and Romance vocabulary. In the first case, searches in documents written in Castilian have brought to light not only examples of new loanwords from Basque, but also unrecorded variants of already known Basque words.
